French Kissing

Obviously, I knew we would have to talk about French kissing with our children at some point, I just didn't think it would be all of them at the same time. We were in the car returning from a nice visit to Steve's grandmother's house. I heard Sam in the back talking about George French kissing girls. And then George retorted with Sam French kissing. I figured it was time to cut their teasing short.

I asked, "Sam, do you even know what French kissing is?"

Sam responded with incredulity, "What? You don't know?"

I said, "I'm asking you."

Sam said, while trying not to laugh, "It's when you kiss and stick your tongue in someone's mouth and then squish it around."

Cara freaked out and then shut up.

The car was quiet as Steve and I tried to contain our silent laughter.

Sam, Maddie and George began to tease again.

I said, "Sam, stop talking about this. It's something special that you get to do later. . . when you are married." (Okay, so I'm hoping he'll wait that long)

The car exploded. All the kids freaked out. None of them wanted to get married. Maddie was the bravest. She asked, "Mom, have you done that?" More shock amongst the kids.

I said the only thing I could think of, "What do you think, Maddie?" That did it. Cara totally flipped out and all the kids thought I was disgusting. My only defense was, "Well, you don't really squish your tongue around." And Steve remained silent during the whole discussion.

Sharon,
I love your blog already! I am so excited. Although blogs are totally self-gratifying. Was that the phrase? The only downside is that you may feel like you've already shared everything when it's time for your Christmas letter. And the french kissing story is hilarious. I was kind of surprised that your kids were surprised you frenched considering I've seen you do it in front of them so many times!

Hey Shar-

At least it wasn't the "Birds and Bees" talk with everyone at once. Then again, maybe that would have kept them all from dating til they were 25. I know that's how long my dad wanted me to wait:)
