New Year, New Things

Okay, I guess it's time to update, but my Christmas newsletter really does sap my creativity for awhile. Not everyone can open up their lives and tell you all the embarrassing details like I can. It does take some humility.

The holidays were great. We spent them in California with my family. One of our highlights was Carmel. Not that being on the shopping strip with five kids was fun, but a visit to the beach after provided some entertainment. In an effort to save ourselves from stores with kids, we walked down to the beach. In the time it took me to meet Steve, our kids, and one nephew at the beach, a dare had been issued. Steve told Gary he'd pay him $20 to jump in the ocean (it was a cold day, and the ocean water in Carmel is very cold). Without even thinking, Gary was in. He quickly stripped down to his undies with shouts of Tammy on my cellphone explicitly stating that he should not do it. Too late. Here is the picture. And I guess since I spent 8 times what Steve spent that day in Carmel, I can't complain about the $20. We also took the kids to see Wicked and went whale watching. When Sam realized how much things cost, he said, "You should have just given me the money. I would have been happier." Practical, and brutally honest. I informed him that it didn't work that way.

Since we have been home, we have started work on our basement. My day is filled with loud noises and decisions. The loud noises I am used to, but the decisions are tougher. When faced with one, I usually say to the contractor, "You've done this before. Just do what you think is best." I'm sure it will all work out. And Max thought this would be a one day deal. He went running down the first day to see if it was all done. It wasn't. He has since learned that it won't be done until after he is five, and then some.

Probably the best thing that happened this month was a phone call from the preschool teacher stating that preschool would be cancelled for the month of January. She had her baby five weeks early and the back-up plan was nullified. So Max is my constant companion. Sooooo Fun!

You couldn't show pictures of the cool whales or the fun on Christmas or the many things we did? You had to show a picture of my son doing an idiotic thing your husband put him up to? my condolences on the preschool thing.
