Sports

Okay, so I didn't get any pictures of the kids in action, but after the fact is better than none at all. I'll start with George's gymnastics meet. Not because it came first, but because I uploaded it in the wrong order. As you can see, he came off quite decorated. His team came in second, George won the individual all around and came in first in four events, second in one, and third in one. We are quite proud. As Steve said, "My son kicked butt." And as I said, "It's nice to go to a sporting event when your child actually does well." I accidentally said this in front of all of the kids, more than once. Uh oh. And of course, we forgot our camera, so no pictures of George on the top of the podium. Hopefully we won't forget next time.

Now, on to skiing. George and Maddie had their first lesson last Friday. On the way to Park City, George started talking about what he wanted for his birthday next year (his birthday is 11 months away). He said he wanted his own room. Max freaked out. Not because he could lose his roommate, but because there was no possible way to wrap up an own room. He exclaimed, "You can't have your own room. You can't just wrap that up and put a bow on it!" Maddie was quick to join the conversation. Apparently, it is never too soon to think about your next birthday (Maddie's is in 8 months). Maddie stated she wanted a lifetime supply of chocolate or a purple rug. Wonder which one of those is more reachable?

They had their first day of skiing and snowboarding. Maddie picked skiing, George picked snowboarding. They loved it. I tried to entertain Max for the three hours they were in lessons. We went to the outlets. I hit the chocolate store first. Then I bought a bunch of stuff for the baby. If you thought Max would help deter my spending, you were wrong. He was constantly telling me to buy more stuff for the baby. We went back to pick up the kids. George informed me that he wasn't done. He was going to go back on the lift by himself. I told him no. Both he and Maddie were ready to come back the very next day. Again, I said, "No." George had a meet and Maddie had a basketball game. And on the way home, they changed their birthday wishes. George now wants his very own snowboard and Maddie wants her own skis. Oh what a difference a few hours makes. All I see is money going quickly.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sports, where money moves so fast you can't even see it go. And, I really hope you remember your camera next time. I want to see George on top of the podium.

How awesome for George. What a fabulous meet. I also recall piano recitals where your kids kicked total butt. Everybody needs to find their "bliss" and your kids are lucky to have your emotional and financial support to find theirs.

How wonderful for both of them! Great to see all that money and driving kids to lessons is paying off. And if you think it gets cheaper as they get older, think again. Just kiss it all goodbye and enjoy the wonderful talents your kids are developing.
