Jespersen Cruise

Steve and I just got back from a cruise with my family to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary.  Before you get too jealous, the picture in Key West was the only time we were tolerably warm.  We froze the rest of the time.  Not exactly the cruise they advertise in brochures (choppy seas, seasickness, rain, not being able to make it into port, extra sea days). But we still had fun!  There were 20 of us all together, how could we not?

Some highlights of the trip were the midnight buffet (who knew I had so little self-control?), watching John throw acorns at the howler monkeys, playing Scum, playing Hearts, watching Tammy hightail it out of the dining room on an incredibly choppy night, seeing Julie's first ever cannonball, and family.

Coming home was fun.  Max practically took flight with his excitement.  The next day, he informed me that I am the best Mom because he likes his mom to have brown hair (my friend who was watching the kids has blond hair).  And later, when he couldn't stop smiling, I said, "Max, why are you smiling?"  He replied, "Because I'm looking at you."  But don't worry, his sweetness quickly wore off.  Last night at dinner (which I had to make, imagine that), he left the table abruptly, while crying, with claims that it stunk so bad because "Sam farted."  Sam did no such thing, and it didn't stink, but well, Max is Max.

I gave the kids an option, I said, "If you all don't want souvenirs, I'll buy you Mario Kart when I get home."  George was torn.  He finally settled on a souvenir.  After he played with his souvenir for a few minutes, he wanted Mario Kart.  Too late.

I came home to a perfect looking science fair project.  Thanks to Cara.  Sam's project was due today.  He neglected to tell me about it until a couple of nights before the cruise.  I gave Cara the assignment of helping him with it.  She helped him so much that I was shocked she put his name instead of hers on the project.

And though I thoroughly enjoyed all the crab I ate on the ship, at least one member of the family didn't.  Max informed me today that Crabby was sad that I ate so much crab.  I told Max it was the bad crabs.  Max has been holding Crabby even closer.  He tucks him into his pocket now.  I swear I have no interest in eating beanbag crabs.

In case you are wondering if I love cooking and cleaning, Steve got us plane tickets to the Bahamas last night.

If you guys buy Mario Kart, we can play against each other from afar.

Mom,
Obviously if I put my name on Sam's project, his teacher would think he was crazy, and Sam would probably smash me to death.

I kind of thought it was a little weird that you only had a couple pictures on your blog from the cruise. Then I remembered that, oh yeah, you didn't really take any. Good thing the rest of us have your back. We got some awesome ones of the cannonballs. You'll have to check my smugmug page.

I am glad you had a "Grand Time" on your cruise. Sounds a little better than ours was. Let's all go together on a cruise (in the spring) sometime. I feel bad we didn't hook up for dinner while you were here.
