Summer

Okay, so the season of summer is benign enough. Hot days (sometimes), thunderstorms, light evenings, gardening, BBQ, a sense of casualness, and flip flops all help to make the season wonderful. What I don't get was who decided to let the kids out of school? Obviously, it wasn't a mom. A mom would have requested 10 weeks without homework, not 10 weeks at home.

I spent so much time in the kitchen cleaning up so many messes that wouldn't be there if the kids were not here. And I spend so much time thinking of chores for the kids to do that they can actually do without my help. And then there are the endless phone calls of other kids wanting to play with my kids so I spend so much time in the car.

But we are having some choice experiences. Like the time Max filled up a glass of water and showed his friend how to drink it. He drank half and then said, "You dump the rest on your head." I yelled, "No!," as Max indeed dumped it on his head and all over the kitchen floor. And then I came out of my room to stop a water fight in the kitchen once between four of my children. And while trying to get some weeding done, I told Max to watch Leah so she wouldn't go in the street. He carried her to the backyard. I heard him say, "George, catch." I looked up to see him throwing Leah over the cement wall. Luckily, George can catch.

So good news, after this week, I only have 9 1/2 weeks left!

If you make a paper chain to help you count down the days till the beginning of school, maybe that would help. Or, move here. Our school starts Aug. 15th!

I hope your kids aren't going to be a bad influence on Scout.

I have to stop reading your blog at work - I keep bursting out laughing.
Oh well, not a problem after Friday.
