Ahhh, my favorite time of year. There is something so sweet about sending Cara and Steve out the door at 7:25, George and Max at 7:40, and Maddie and Sam at 7:50. I admit, I shut the door and sigh in a positive manner. I let Leah sleep in for as long as possible. It is my quietest time of the day. Breakfast dishes are not a chore, they are a peaceful joy. So I clean up the house until I hear, "Mom! Come get me! Mom, I was waiting for you." And then when I go get Leah, who has not attempted climbing out of her bed, she says, "It's Mommy Leah time."
So here are some of my favorite things right now. Sam has glasses, but he doesn't always wear them. When I see him without them, I ask him, "Sam, why don't you have your glasses on." Without fail, he replies, "Cuz I'm too lazy to go downstairs and get them." I just don't understand how you can be too lazy to see clearly.
I was driving George and his friend to gymnastics when I overheard George saying, "Don't you think it's weird that teenagers are older than us, but we have bigger muscles?"
While looking for a car for Cara, we found the perfect teenager car, an 18-year-old Buick. She said we shouldn't waste our money on it because she would rather walk then drive that. Ok, so that wasn't my favorite moment. I was actually pretty ticked and almost bought the car right then because of that. However, she will probably win out because Steve and I are concerned with the safety of a car that old.
Max has grown an inch and a half taller than George. And he has been overheard to say he is better at math than George. He is also jealous of a pic Matt took of George with his bulging muscles. Max has dreams of Matt catching him in the water with his face to the side, breathing, while his hand it touching the wall in victory, with splashes all around. He has said that he would never lose a race when we put him on a swim team.
Leah loves making inanimate objects talk. Maddie showed her a tiny pom pom bird she had found and let Leah hold it. Leah took the bird and said, "I'm not Maddie's cute little bird. I'm Leah's cute little bird." And then said, "Maddie, please make it my bird. Please make it Leah's bird."
And Maddie, patiently waiting for Sam every morning, so they can walk out the door together.

That bit about Sam being too lazy to get his glasses reminds me of Brian Regan's bit about putting off your appointment with the eye doctor. "I'm too busy. I'll see tomorrow."
