Hiking the Y

Leah was in heaven. She finally got to pull Mom's hair all she wanted to.

Leah touches the Y.

Cara and Steve on the way down. Cara was asking what
was so beautiful about the colors on the mountain.

Cara and Maddie, almost down.

Leah zonks out at the end. I knew she was asleep when the kicking
stopped and the hair pulling stopped.

This weekend was UEA, which basically means extra work for Mom as the kids had Thursday and Friday off. The weather was absolutely beautiful, so Steve took Friday afternoon off and we took the kids to hike the Y. I made a bet with all of them that they couldn't make it to the top without whining. Best bet I ever made. The kids were so afraid to whine. Sam asked if labored breathing counted as whining. I told him that he was allowed to breathe heavy without losing the bet. Anyway, all did well. Max was kind of whiny, but we let it slide as he is five and was very hot. He was ecstatic on the way down. Cara didn't complain, although I knew she was only hiking for the promised shakes if she held up her end of the bet. George practically ran up the mountain. I rarely heard from Sam and Maddie except when Sam reported that Maddie said she wished she were at school, and wanted to know if that counted as whining. Steve didn't whine on the way up, but he did complain about being tired later on that evening. Leah didn't whine at all. She was in heaven. She couldn't stop squealing with delight until sleep overcame her.

But for a family of BYU fans, it was about time we let the kids touch the Y.

The ice cream at the end was everyone's favorite part. No pictures of that because my phone was in my pocket and I couldn't pull it out to take a picture because Leah screamed when I took my cone out of her reach. A picture would have been worth a thousand words, but your imagination will have to do. Leah went crazy for ice cream. She was a mess and so was my cone.

Glad to see Leah was still decked out in one of her cute outfits for the occasion.

I've never hiked to the Y and I've survived after all these years. Glad the kids did it though! What troopers. Now they can say they've done it and never have to do it again. Great plan for the whiners incentive! You are a smart mom.
